Erdogan: Our goal is to produce 100,000 barrels of oil per day from the Ghabar well

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Saturday his government aimed to increase daily oil production at the Gabar well in Sirnak state in the country's southeast to 100,000 barrels by the end of 2024.

President Erdogan confirmed – during a mass gathering held in Zonguldak state overlooking the Black Sea – One of his country's most important priorities is “achieving complete independence in the energy sector”, indicating that steps have been taken decisively to ensure energy security in Turkey.

He said that daily oil production at the Gabar well has reached 35 thousand barrels, stressing that the goal is to reach 100 thousand barrels per day by the end of 2024.

Erdogan indicated that he would continue to provide 25 cubic meters of natural gas for free to households until next April.

He expressed hope for good and new news regarding oil, mines and natural gas in the coming time and said, “We will never allow Turkey to stop using its underground and surface resources.”

On December 12, 2022, President Erdogan announced the discovery of a field in Mount Gabor containing 150 million barrels of oil reserves.
