Deal to Release 53 Hostages - 40 Children and 13 Parents from Hamas - To Be Approved by Israel's Cabinet

Reports of an agreement between Israel and Hamas to release a large number of hostages abducted on October 7 by terrorists in southern Israel have been confirmed.

At 6 the war council will meet, at 7 the security council and at 8 in the evening the cabinet will meet in Israel to approve the agreement for the release of dozens of Hamas hostages.

Earlier in a meeting with soldiers in southern Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We are making progress. I don’t think it’s useful to say too much (…) but I hope there will be good news soon.” Netanyahu was at a military base in northern Israel as negotiations brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States were underway.

Noting that there are still technical issues to be resolved, the official said there is an agreement to release at least 53 people, 40 children and 13 mothers, while dozens more could be freed in exchange for an extension of the agreed ceasefire.

Those to be released are expected to be children, their mothers and other women.
