Earlier in a meeting with soldiers in southern Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “We are making progress. I don’t think it’s useful to say too much (…) but I hope there will be good news soon.” Netanyahu was at a military base in northern Israel as negotiations brokered by Qatar, Egypt and the United States were underway.
Noting that there are still technical issues to be resolved, the official said there is an agreement to release at least 53 people, 40 children and 13 mothers, while dozens more could be freed in exchange for an extension of the agreed ceasefire.
