The Moscow city court has said that the journalist of the American daily, Evan Gershkovich, should continue to remain in custody, and that he has submitted his request for release to another authority, the Russian news agency, TASS, reported.
The local court has said that unspecified “conditions” are making it impossible to hold a hearing, but without giving more details.
The journalist’s lawyers have appealed his detention decision, which currently means his stay in prison until November.
Gershkovich, 31, was detained in March in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg by Russia’s secret police.
He is accused of gathering secret information at a Russian military complex.
The Wall Street Journal has denied any such thing.
Gershkovich has been accredited as a journalist in Russia. The American government is demanding his immediate release./ REL
