The Criminal Court of Tirana decided today in favor of the request for the extradition of former KLA soldier Dritan Goxhaj, thus paving the way for his trial in The Hague.
But in the meantime, his lawyers have claimed that both the arrest and the request for extradition are illegal.
His lawyer described it as a political decision. For this reason, it has been stated that within a period of 10 days, they will turn to the Court of Appeal with General Jurisdiction in Tirana, to overturn the decision taken today.
Today, his supporters have gathered in front of the Tirana Court. They unanimously protested, demanding Goxhaj’s release. The arrest of Goxhaj was made at the expense of the Special Court. Goxhaj is accused of committing the criminal offenses of “Intimidation during criminal proceedings” and “Obstructing an official in the performance of official duties”, provided by the criminal legislation of the Republic of Kosovo.
