The European Council in Brussels appointed Ileana Ivanova (from Bulgaria) as a new European Commissioner by joint agreement with the President of the Commission, Rusula von der Leyen.
This appointment comes after the resignation of Maria Gabriel from her position in the European Commission for the remainder of the term of the European Executive, which continues until October 31, 2024.
Ivanova was assigned the portfolio of innovation, research, culture, education and youth.
