With impunity on the big screen, the 18th edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival held at the Marubi Film and Multimedia Academy has opened. The executive director of the festival, Kujtim Çashku, said that the festival deals with dilemmas.
KUJTIM CASHKU, executive director of IHRFFA: This year’s dilemmas? We talk about impunity, in Albania, in Europe and in the world related to the old structures because we had a Nurenberg, but we don’t know what crimes happened after the Second World War and no one has been held accountable. When I talk about crimes, I’m talking about those who roam the planet and I’m talking about crimes in Ukraine
While the honorary president of the festival, Teodor Orlin pointed out Albania’s problems in the field of human rights with health, housing, education and the judicial system, he emphasized that human rights are related to the rule of law. EU Chargé d’affaires Luigi Soreca, German Ambassador Karl Bergner, Ukraine’s Reinout Vos, Volodomyr Shkurov, diplomats, filmmakers, students were among the audience on the first night, through the film “Marriage Folly”, which deals with the authoritarianism of mafia through satire.
DEMETRIO CASILE, director of the film “Marrezi Martese”.
“I wanted to show something important with an entertaining film. But the film should not be seen as a comedy, because it is a metaphor, it is a satire on the idiocy of the powerful, of the mafia, who think to rule the world, but in the film we laugh at their ideas”.
In addition to the “Marubi” Academy cinema, the 49 selected films are shown until Saturday evening in several state institutions, including the Parliament of Albania. The films deal with war crimes, crimes against humanity, violence, murders, immigration, etc. in films that include Africa and Europe through cases of human rights violations.
