The Minister of Finance and Economy, Ervin Mete, hosted the World Bank Manager for Albania, Emanuel Salinas, in an official meeting. Mete appreciated the cooperation so far with the World Bank and thanked Mr. Salinas for the continuous support that the WB has given and continues to give to our country in the process of reforms towards European integration and economic development.
For his part, Salinas congratulated Mete on his new position as Minister of Finance and Economy and expressed the willingness of the World Bank to continue cooperation and support for Albania. During the meeting, the importance of the Berlin Process for the countries of the Western Balkans was discussed, within the framework of which the “Forum of Ministers of Economy” will be held in Tirana on September 26. The two interlocutors shared the same opinion on the need to push forward the Berlin process, as a very good opportunity for support and economic development of the countries of the region, towards integration into the European Union.
The World Bank was committed to supporting trade and transport projects in Albania and other countries of the Western Balkans. Another area where the World Bank will offer its support and assistance is related to payment systems. To date, the World Bank has offered Albania over 2.4 billion USD in financing, where the largest share is budget support with 42.23%, followed by investments in the transport sector with 13.77%, in the energy sector with 9.65%, the supply of water and sewage with 7.86% and others.
This year, the new Partnership Agreement (Country Partnership Framework for Albania – CPF 2023-2027) was approved by the WB.
