Albanian wrestler Zelimkhan Abakarov becomes the second Albanian athlete to secure the qualification for the “Paris 2024” Olympic Games, which will take place after a year in France. The news was confirmed by the Albanian Wrestling Federation.
The bronze medal that Abakarov won the day before at the world championships in Belgrade (Serbia), where he was classified third, has directly qualified the wrestler of Russian origin, but with an Albanian passport, for the Olympics.
Abakarov will compete in the 57kg weight class, where he won the bronze medal and was declared world champion a year ago. The athlete Luiza Gega also secured a ticket to the Olympics, having secured the qualification standard in the 3000 meters hurdle race.
