The 2023 Population and Housing Census officially started today, through INSTAT.
The census will provide an overview of the current state of Albania’s population, including social, economic aspects, demographic movements and many other data, which will clearly show how and where the citizens of Albania live in 2023.
The census of the entire population and housing is the most important statistical operation in the country, and based on these data, the institutions will be able to correctly plan the necessary interventions and services for the residents.
This is the 12th census in the history of Albania, which comes 100 years after the first census, developed in 1923, and thanks to technological developments, it is expected to fully implement the European standards of census development.
About 7 thousand people were employed for this process. The total cost is expected to reach 16.9 million euros.
The collection of information will be done by going to each house. If a citizen refuses to be part of the population census, penalties are foreseen, ranging from 50 to 100 thousand ALL.
All persons living in a household will be counted. Anyone 18 years of age or older can answer the questions themselves.
Interviewers will ask about personal information, education, health status, employment and other elements of life. Also, the Census includes questions about ethnicity, religious belief and language.
However, you can say that you prefer not to answer these specific questions. The census does not include questions about your financial situation (income, savings, etc.) or political preferences.
The surveyor undertakes to put the data on the tablet and send it to INSTAT electronically. Everyone’s data is protected by law and encrypted so that individual information cannot be identified
