Interior Minister Taulant Balla presented today the new Prefect of Kukës District, Granit Gjana, who replaced Albert Halilajn in this position.
Balla said during the meeting that the Ministry of the Interior has ready the new legal draft, for the consolidation of the role of the Prefect, as a direct representative of the Prime Minister and the government in the territory.
The Minister emphasized the role that the Prefect currently has in leading several local Task Forces, where he singled him out for the School Safety Package.
“We all know that children the greatest risk of access to phenomena such as drugs, or others such as bullying, do not happen at school, but happen on the way to school or in all the service units located within the security perimeter of schools . They happen at the cafe, at the bar across the street, at the discotheque near the school, but also problems related to food safety, related to kiosks or fast food or everything else that is located within that perimeter, not forgetting a phenomenon that maybe for guilty of not properly implementing the law that the State Health Inspectorate is tasked to implement and that has to do with alcohol under the age of 18. All these are already tasks and within this package, it is up to the District Prefect, who, in cooperation with the director of the State Police, with the National Food Authority, ISHSH, with the local government bodies, to start having the opportunity to to verify all road signs, school fences, security cameras, because they are a very important element to guarantee that every student, every child that every resident of Kukës, Has or Tropoja, sends to school, they are in ” our faith”, declared Mr. forehead
The minister further spoke about a new approach in the implementation of this security package.
“I am very proud of the results we achieved in the first days of this new school year. Since the first week, we have had a significant number of people involved in 23 criminal groups, which were operating in the distribution of narcotics near schools in almost the entire territory. We also had some results in Kukës and we expect the results to be further consolidated in the coming days and to guarantee that this phenomenon, which many tell me is difficult to completely eradicate, but to attack it without any compromise, I believe that we will fall we all agree and we have the agreement of the parents, grandparents, who expect the state to hit this type of phenomenon as hard as possible, not to forget the other phenomena that affect our children”, he underlined.
