Microsoft has set 2028 as the release year of the next console Xbox. While those plans may change, Axios reports that the specific launch window was first mentioned in a May 2022 meeting attended by Satya Nadella, Amy Hood, and Phil Spencer, among others.
Excerpts from the above meeting were released as Microsoft’s evidence in its legal battle with the US Federal Trade Commission trying to block the software company’s takeover of Activision.
Some of them state that Microsoft intends to be more flexible with the gen 10 consoles but at the same time wants to give the opportunity to creators to take full advantage of the unique hardware capabilities. Finally, Microsoft’s lawyers state that “the next generation of consoles is not going to be released before the Fall of 2028”.
As for Sony, in documents published in July 2023, Microsoft says it “expects Sony to release the PlayStation 5 Pro.”
