The exchange of prisoners between Iran and the United States of America, which has been planned for months, will take place next Monday, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.
“Five American citizens will return to the United States. In exchange, the United States will pardon five Iranian citizens who have been convicted or charged in the country,” said spokesman Nasser Kanaani.
It has been known for several weeks that the US and Iran were negotiating a prisoner exchange.
In August, the Iranian judiciary released several American citizens from detention and placed them under house arrest.
In return, Iran had demanded about $6 billion, which had been frozen by South Korea due to international sanctions.
