Prime Minister Edi Rama, through a post on the Facebook social network, congratulated former Prime Minister Fatos Nano on his 75th birthday.
In his reaction, Rama writes that Nano “kept the wheel of the SP in ups and downs and it is undoubtedly his in the first place, the credit that the Socialist Party did not move for a moment, due to the gravity of the national interest”.
Rama’s post:
FATOS NANO found himself at the helm when the shattered communist army conducted the funeral of the Labor Party in the middle of the desert, with the tattered flag of the dictatorship of the proletariat at half-mast, morale under the soles of shoes worn out by the 45-year march towards the only receding horizon. until the worn-out embers of Communism that issued the last cries for war with the whole world disappeared, as the irresistible wind of change turned the wild wail of despair into a whistle as piercing as it was funny. Among the sallow faces of leaders suffocated by the future of the future and secretaries skinned by the sun of the factory sites, “Korri” was there the ambiguous face of the new cadre of the party, who worked at the Institute of Marxism-Leninism and of the clumsy press of the Economy, who showed the barcaleta mocking the regime played the Beatles with his guitar.
It was precisely Fatos Nano’s non-schematic profile that gave him the scepter of the newborn left after the burial of the Labor Party, and his non-dogmatic nature, combined with the absurd imprisonment that christened him the uncontested leader of the socialists, gave the Socialist Party a breather new perspective as the first force on the upward path of Albanian politics. Maybe without his imposed sacrifice, the socialists would have had a less generous fate, but even without that imposed sacrifice, Fatosi might not have become their long-lived leader. The photo I have selected for this day of congratulations was for me the most significant image of Fatos Nano since his release from prison, and even today I am surprised by the sudden change between it and his appearance in court. Fatosi, handcuffed in front of the judges with the enigmatic look, is the economic pressor taken hostage and held tightly to the eyes of the people. While Fatosi, with his free hands and bright shining eyes, is a rare political animal, whom I had the good fortune to know up close.
He kept the helm of the SP in ups and downs and it is unquestionably his in the first place, the credit that the Socialist Party did not move for a moment, due to the gravity of the national interest, which today constitutes an unwavering line of behavior of SP is unique among political parties in Albania. At the head of the SP, he led the socialists out of the wilderness after the burial of the Labor Party, bringing them into the Socialist International as a family of new-age progressive ideas and making the spirit of change the engine of forward movement. At the head of the government he had to lead the people out of the desert of the pyramids and restart state building from scratch after the leveling crap of ’97.
The story of our relationship developed between extremes, from my “adoption” into the socialist family with the blessing of Fatos, to the “killing of my father” for taking his scepter, is generally known. While we are talking, the relationship between us is healthy, with a friendly communication where we understand each other in the air, because for a long time now we have been talking like the driver of the first shift to the driver of the second shift, for the same car. Or not actually, when I think about what a Soviet four-wheeler Fatosi got in the first shift, what a much better vehicle I got from him and what a brand of speed the Socialist Party is today, we are actually talking like two pilots of a car that must follow self-development and move even faster, overcoming the daily risk of being slowed down by weak competition.
Wishing the historical leader of the socialists a happy birthday, I also wish that one day we write the report of our tours in a book together, to leave in the library of the mayor’s office for those who will take the tour after us. Yes, there is plenty of time until then, and in the meantime, I wish Fatos health, happiness and all the best for his family.
