The head of the government conducted an interview this afternoon for the Greek media, ERT, where of course the focus of the discussion was the case of Fredi Beleri as well as the previous interview given by Edi Rama for the newspaper “Kathimerini”.
Speaking about the situation created after Beler’s arrest and the tensions between official Athens and Tirana, Rama was asked if these developments will have an impact on the definition of the maritime border in The Hague between the two states.
Rama stated that the two countries have common interests that match the necessity of a friendly relationship and a strategic partnership with Greece.
“So for all the problems, from the maritime border, to the lifting of the martial law from Greece, I continue to remain very engaged and also, for the friendship with the Prime Minister of Greece, I continue to be confident and completely committed”, declared Rama.

-And yet, the last question is that you know TV time is limited, again Athina thinks that the solution to this issue goes from Tirana, from your office, the ball is located next door. You have said that you want a dialogue with Mr. Mitsotakis. What exactly are you going to tell him?
Prime Minister Edi Rama: No, I don’t need any mediator to have communication with Qiriako because he is a friend and I have valued him as an admirable person personally and as a modern leader and I have no message to I convey them through the media because there is no need. We communicate and we don’t need intermediaries or others, much less media channels to tell each other what we think.
But I want to say one thing at the end. Greece or Athens thinks that the ball is in this office on this issue, implying that if the ball does not go in the direction that Athens wants, Athens will take revenge with Albania, hindering the EU membership process, – this is not European and that is very antique in my opinion. In Greece, I see our partner not only in the Balkans, but also our partner in the EU. So I really hope that placing the bust of Prime Minister Mitsotakis in Derviçan, which I promised then and I have no intention of withdrawing from that promise because there is a misunderstanding today, will be another reason to understand each other well, that in Tirana, in this office, Greece has a friend, a true friend, a sincere friend. I am the prime minister of Albania, I am not the prime minister of Greece and I serve the interests of Albania and I am at the head of a historic battle for justice in Albania to do equal justice for everyone.
-Very short; Will all this development have an impact on the definition of the maritime border in The Hague between the two states?
Prime Minister Edi Rama: We have very important strategic interests and our strategic interests are fully compatible with the necessity of a friendly relationship and a strategic partnership with Greece. So for all the problems, from the maritime border, to the lifting of martial law from Greece, I continue to remain very engaged, and also for the friendship with the Prime Minister of Greece, I continue to be confident and fully engaged .
