Professor Fatmir Shehu, invited to the News24 studio, commented on the developments surrounding the oil source that was recently discovered in Shpirag.
Shehu said that leaving the source of Shpirag in oblivion is something that makes no sense, since he knew about it over 20 years earlier.
According to him, Albania should have promoted the source, while he called for the acceleration of the work procedure for oil extraction.
“For me, it makes no sense to discover such a large asset and leave it untreated for 20 years. The procrastination can be explained in many ways. SHELL is one of the world’s oil giants, it is not killed by the shoe, but we are. We should have been promoters of this.
SHELL has also discovered in Italy a source similar to Shpirag, but it was put to work for 5-6 years.
The conclusion should have come out sooner for Shpiragu. If this asset is so useful for the country and SHELL, then the procedure should be accelerated”, he said.
