In the final report of the Performance Audit “Treatment of tumor diseases”, some of the violations related to the malfunction of the equipment in the Oncology hospital in Tirana were noticed.
According to the KLSH audit report provided by BalkanWeb, it turns out that in the Oncology Hospital, the Brachytherapy medical equipment (Kyritherapy) is not functional, which has caused the non-treatment of 600 women patients with gynecological CA with radiotherapy, a fact that constitutes a risk for their health.
The report also states that the non-operation of the Orthovoltage device by the General Directorate of the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center due to lack of facilities has led to the non-treatment of 200 radiotherapy patients suffering from skin tumors. (Melanoma).
“The General Directorate of the Tirana University Hospital Center, “Mother Teresa” has not arrived in time to provide the elements “Tubes, Pumps and Thermoplastic Masks) by not providing service to 250 patients with radiotherapy service in the Oncology Hospital.
The hospital lacks an air conditioning system, the patient rooms on the 3rd floor have the presence of moisture, as well as the non-functional basement of the building, which currently serves as a collection point for depreciated equipment. The level of dirt in the underground floor is quite high and constitutes a potential risk for infections”, the report states, among other things.
Furthermore, it was concluded that the non-provision of the Branitherapy medical equipment of some elements (Tubes, Pumps and Thermoplastic Masks), the non-rehabilitation of the premises to adapt the placement of the Orthovoltage device, as well as the non-timely treatment of patients who need them , shows that the service of the Oncology hospital in the treatment of tumor diseases (for the period under audit) is not fully effective.
So it is requested that the General Directorate of the Tirana University Hospital Center “Mother Teresa” in cooperation with the Integrated Administration Pole of the Oncology Hospital, take measures for the provision of Bronchitherapy equipment, elements (Tubes, Pumps and Thermoplastic Masks) as well as the rehabilitation of the premises for the installation of the Orthovoltage device for the treatment of patients with tumor diseases.
