The global anti-war movement “World Beyond War” today, Monday, awarded its annual award to the activist and human rights defender, Sultana Sayed Ibrahim Khia, one of the symbols of the resistance of the Sahrawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, according to the movement’s website.
Sultana Khia won in the individual “Cancellation of War” category for the year 2023, as the award was handed to her by the Palestinian Muhammad Abu Nahil, to replace the New Zealand film director William Watson, who won the 2022 award.
Sultana Khia expressed her sincere gratitude to the “World Beyond War” organization and to all the civil society that “supports the Sahrawi people in their just cause and believes in the values of peace and justice for the sake of all humanity.”
In the same context, the Sahrawi activist said that she is receiving this honor “on behalf of the resistant Sahrawi people, especially the Sahrawi women who are subjected to constant persecution by the Moroccan occupier and its repressive apparatus that practices various types of abuse and torture against the defenseless Sahrawis in the occupied territories.”
