The trial of former US President Donald Trump on charges of conspiracy to overturn the outcome of the 2020 presidential election is set for March 4, 2024.
The date means Trump’s trial will be held almost eight months before the 2024 US presidential election.
The trial is also a day before the so-called “Super Tuesday”, when many states nominate their Republican or Democratic candidate for president.
The former president is currently the favorite to win the Republican nomination to face incumbent Joe Biden.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan denied a defense request to delay the trial until April 2026, about a year and a half after the 2024 election, but also puts it later than the January date proposed by special prosecutor Jack’s team. Smith.
Trump was charged earlier this month in a four-count indictment with fraud to undo his loss to Democrat Biden in the 2020 election.
