The FIFA Disciplinary Committee announced today, Saturday, the temporary suspension of the president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, amid an uproar, which he recently raised during the celebration of Spain’s victory in the Women’s World Cup.
“The Chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided today to temporarily suspend Mr. Rubiales from all football-related activities at the national and international levels,” FIFA said in a statement.
Rubiales, who is 46 years old and controversial, refused to submit his resignation on Friday during the federation’s general assembly, despite a campaign of widespread criticism, saying that he had fallen victim to a campaign to get rid of him.
