Coup leaders in Niger asked the French ambassador to leave the country within 48 hours, according to news agencies.
The Nigerien Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement that due to “the refusal of the French ambassador in Niamey to respond” to its invitation to “conduct an interview” on Friday, and “other actions of the French government that conflict with the interests of Niger,” the authorities decided to withdraw their approval to accredit Ambassador Sylvain Et and “ask him to leave.” Niger territory within 48 hours.
The military took control of power after a coup against President Mohamed Bazoum on July 26.
