Books – Youssef Afifi:
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities issued Ministerial Resolution No. 79 of 2023 imposing new additional fees that apply to hotel establishments, tourism companies, restaurants and bazaars.
The decision included, after the approval of the Egyptian Federation of Tourist Chambers, the imposition of other fees on shisha, in favor of the Tourism and Antiquities Support Fund, and the actual implementation of the decision began in early March.
The details of the decision are as follows:
1- Adding a fee of 1% of the price of an individual’s stay or a hotel night to hotels, not less than 5 pounds and not more than 50 pounds, and the same percentage applies to safari yachts.
2- Imposing an annual fee on tourist bazaars, between 5 and 10 thousand pounds annually, according to the area of the place.
3- Imposing an annual fee ranging between 4 and 5 thousand pounds on cafeterias and restaurants, in addition to between 3 and 5 thousand pounds; In the event that it offers artistic paragraphs, alcohol, or (shisha).
4- Imposing an annual fee of EGP 20,000 on discotheques.
5- Imposing an annual fee ranging between 3 and 7 thousand pounds on tourism companies, according to the category of each company.
6- Imposing an annual fee ranging between 500 and 1000 pounds on tourism buses, limousines and microbuses.
7- Tourism establishments will receive mechanization, digital transformation and training services, in return for the money they will contribute to the fund.
The month of the holy month of Ramadan astronomically approaches us on March 23, 2023, with a duration of 29 days, according to the astronomical guide of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research.
It is worth noting that the decision came days before the start of the holy month of Ramadan, in which sitting in cafeterias and cafes increases during the nights of the blessed month, and the demand for the use of “shisha” in general increases.
