Heavy snow, Northeast Sikkim closed for tourists

Sikkim’s Jawaharlal Nehru Road has been under ice since Thursday afternoon. The surroundings are also covered with snow. According to Sikkim Tourism Department, heavy snowfall has been going on in the higher areas of East Sikkim for the past few days. The road leading up to mile 17 was almost closed. Tourists visit Changu Lake, Baba Mandir and Nathula on this road. However, 3 to 13 miles of roadway has been prepared for vehicular traffic by cutting through the thick layer of ice with the help of dredgers.
