Fifty houses were gutted in a slum fire in Kunipara, Tejgaon industrial area of the capital. The fire broke out around eight o’clock on Monday night. 12 units of fire service brought the fire under control around 10:30 pm after trying for two and a half hours.
The fire service believes that the fire started from an electrical short circuit or gas line.
According to local residents, Kunipara slum is known as ‘Rolling Mill slum’. There are about 500 houses here. Low income people including garment workers, rickshaw pullers, masons live here. Those whose houses are burnt are sitting on the road. They could not get anything out of the house as the fire spread quickly.
