The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq Ali, called on the ambassadors of the permanent and non-permanent member states of the Security Council to inform their governments of Sudan’s position demanding an end to the sanctions regime imposed on Sudan according to Security Council Resolution No. (1591) of 2005 AD due to the outbreak of the conflict in Darfur at the time, expressing He expressed his aspiration to support this position when discussing the matter in the Security Council.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said – in a statement today, Tuesday – that the Foreign Minister made it clear to the ambassadors of the member states of the Security Council that the situation in Sudan today is completely different from what it was in the year 2005 at the time of the imposition of sanctions, and that the current developments in Sudan require the support of the international community for the efforts of the Sudanese parties towards An easy transition to democracy.
“The implementation of the Juba Peace Agreement, especially the implementation of security arrangements, requires the lifting of these sanctions and the termination of the mandate of the Resolution 1591 expert group,” the statement added.
