A strong earthquake of magnitude 7.8 hit southeastern Turkey on Monday. This has led to a humanitarian disaster in Turkey and Syria. The death toll in the two countries has exceeded five thousand. However, the number is expected to increase. About six thousand buildings collapsed in Turkey.
Among the affected cities is Azaz in the southern province of Khahramanmaras. Bangladeshi students Noore Alam and Rinku lived in that city. The building they lived in was also destroyed. Noor Alam was later able to come out of the destroyed building, but no trace of Rinku could be found till Tuesday afternoon. Student Noore Alam has been discharged from the hospital with first aid.
