The Governor of Aswan, Major General Ashraf Attia, met today, Tuesday, with members of the Joint Higher Committee; To inspect the “House of Akkad”, headed by Brigadier General Dr. Hassan El-Hefnawy from the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, with the membership of representatives of the Military Works Department, the Ministry of Housing and Utilities, the Governorate’s Housing Directorate, and the consultant of the Faculty of Engineering at Aswan University.
The governor said that the formation of a technical committee at the highest level to inspect the House of Akkad reflects the state’s interest in heritage buildings associated with the history of its sons, symbols of science, thought and literature, led by the giant of Arab literature Abbas Mahmoud Al-Akkad.
He pointed out that the committee will examine the house of the heirs of the writer Abbas Al-Akkad, from February 7 to 9, to prepare recommendations and an engineering report on proposals for optimal utilization of the building in the event of non-demolition, and to support, restore and raise its efficiency in order to preserve it, and convert it into a museum and cultural and tourist shrine. open.
It is worth noting that the governor of Aswan made a field visit to the “House of Akkad” more than once, and it was built since 1944 on an area of 220 meters on Abbas Farid Street with a system of load-bearing walls of sandstone, and the building consists of 3 floors, a ground floor and two upper floors, and it has a facade One, and it is surrounded by neighboring buildings on the other three sides, as a depression appeared in the floor of the ground floor, and cracks in the walls in all floors, especially on the eastern side of the most damaged building.
