Today, Saturday, Al-Rayyan International Airport in Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout Governorate, in eastern Yemen, resumed its activity in foreign flights, after nine years of hiatus.
The Ministry of Transport of the legitimate government said in a statement, “The airport has resumed its activities by organizing the first flight of Yemeni Airlines from Jeddah Airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
The statement stated that the first flight of Yemenia Airways arrived from the city of Jeddah with about 100 passengers on board, and it will leave again to Jeddah with about 103 passengers on board.
The statement stated that the resumption of all previous flights to and from Al-Rayyan International Airport comes within the framework of the efforts made by the ministry’s leadership in cooperation with the local authority in Hadramout, and within the framework of interest in Al-Rayyan Airport and contributing to restoring its pioneering role that would relieve citizens.
The statement pointed out that there is a procedure and arrangements currently in place to resume the Al-Rayyan-Cairo and Al-Rayyan-Dubai flights.
He stressed that the ministry’s leadership will work to restore the airport’s navigational activity, which was suspended after the 2015 war, and to reactivate other airports in the country in the liberated areas, to serve travelers and facilitate their travel abroad through the various airports that have been re-equipped and rehabilitated with the support of Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
