Monir Hossain, assistant agricultural officer of Angaria Union of Sadar Upazila, said that there is a lot of hard work in Borodhan plantation. After the paddy is harvested, the farmers cannot even bring it home due to lack of laborers – this has been happening for the past few years. Apart from that, there are cases of selling at a lower price than the cost. Due to this reason, the interest of farmers is increasing towards other crops than Borodhan. For two years in the fall, potato and wheat crops have increased.
Shariatpur Agriculture Extension Directorate Deputy Director Rabi’ah Noor Ahmed told Prothom Alo that farmers have lost interest in boro paddy cultivation due to the increase in prices of various accessories including electricity and diesel. However, other crops are being cultivated on this land.
