In 2015, Mominul Haque started an illegal casino business at the Wanderers Club in Motijheel after being elected as the councilor of Ward No. 9 of Dhaka South City Corporation. Apart from this, the casino business of four other clubs in Motijheel area was also under his control. On September 18, 2019, the anti-casino campaign began with the arrest of Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan, the organizing secretary of Jubo League’s Dhaka Metropolitan South branch. It came to be known as ‘Shuddhi Abhiyan’ to the leaders and workers of Awami League. In that operation, a total of 13 people including the influential leader of Jubo League Ismail Hossain Chowdhury alias Samrat and his associate Enamul Haque alias Arman, controversial contractor GK Shamim were arrested. However, Mominul Haque fled the country. Last three years he stayed in different countries including Dubai, Thailand, Singapore.
A Jubo League source says that Samrat was released on bail in August last year after two and a half years of arrest in the casino case. Then his associate Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan was released on bail. So taking into consideration the situation, Mominul Haque returned to the country.
