Suez – Hossam El Din Ahmed:
The Suez Canal Authority issued an official statement to resolve the controversy over what was circulated of false information on some personal accounts through social networks, of unknown origin, regarding the Suez Canal Authority contracting with a company to manage its services through a 99-year concession contract.
During the statement, Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, head of the authority, confirmed that these rumors are completely and utterly untrue, stressing the absolute Egyptian sovereignty, in both its political and economic aspects, in managing, operating and maintaining the navigational facility of the Suez Canal.
Admiral Rabie explained that the Suez Canal Authority is committed to its social responsibilities, by announcing all its contracts in various forms, including contracts or memorandums of understanding, etc., while disclosing the terms of the contracts and their importance.
In this regard, he pointed out that upholding the national interest, preserving the authority’s capabilities and developing its assets is the basis of all contracts concluded by the authority, which cannot in any way prejudice Egyptian sovereignty over the channel and all its facilities that are constitutionally protected under the Egyptian constitution and what is stipulated in Article 43 and its content. The state is committed to protecting, developing and preserving the Suez Canal as an international waterway owned by it. It is also committed to developing the canal sector as a distinguished economic center.
The head of the authority stressed that all necessary legal measures will be taken against these pages, in order not to implicate the authority or impersonate its name, and the consequent creation of confusion or prejudice to its economic standing in the local and international circles.
According to the statement, the Suez Canal Authority calls on citizens not to pay attention to rumors that aim to create confusion and cast doubt on one of the oldest and most important national economic institutions, and the need to investigate accuracy in the news being circulated, and to obtain correct information through the official sources of the authority.
