Dr. Sherif El-Hadi, Head of the Earthquake Department at the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research, revealed the reasons for the recurrence of earthquakes during the recent period, with a magnitude of 6 in the eastern Mediterranean at a depth of 54 km.
And the Astronomy Institute announced, this morning, that the stations of the National Earthquake Monitoring Network affiliated with the Institute recorded on Friday, corresponding to 02/03/2023, an earthquake at a distance of
37 km northeast of Hurghada.

Al-Hadi said, to “Masrawy”: Each region has its own geological and tectonic conditions, and if a major earthquake occurs, it is likely that it will occur in other places far from it, as a result of the earth’s disturbance in the places where active faults occur in the ground.
He continued: Every region has its own circumstances in the causes of the earthquake, but the force, which is estimated at about 4 to 4.5 degrees on the Richter scale, is not very strong. That is, with much less strength than the average and does not affect the infrastructure, and such relatively small earthquakes are considered an example of “venting the earth” with successive earthquakes of small strength so that the energy comes out from the ground in stages and not in one large amount, and this is from God’s mercy.
On Wednesday before last, the stations of the National Earthquake Network of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research recorded a 6-magnitude earthquake in the eastern Mediterranean, 502 km from the Egyptian coast and 54 km deep.
The institute said in a statement that the earthquake was felt by a number of citizens within Greater Cairo, stressing that the earthquake did not result in any losses or injuries.

It is worth noting that the end of December 2022 witnessed two earthquakes within 72 hours in the city of Al-Tur, and the first was 26 km southwest of Al-Tur.
The tremor came at 02:11:02 am on Tuesday, December 27 local time, with a magnitude of 5 on the Richter scale, latitude: 28.04 north, longitude: 33.48 east, and depth: 9.61 km.
The institute received reports that the tremor was felt, but it did not report any loss of life or property.
On the evening of Thursday, December 29, the stations of the National Seismological Network of the Institute recorded an earthquake 31 km southwest of Al-Tur.
Its data was as follows:
Strength: 4.41 on the Richter scale
Latitude: 28.02 North
Longitude: 33.42 east
Depth: 15.04 km
The institute received reports that the tremor was felt, but it did not report any loss of life or property.
