The government continues its efforts to develop the downtown area of Cairo “Downtown” by removing slums there and constructing huge multi-use towers, in addition to officially deciding the fate of the Tahrir Complex to be converted into a huge hotel.
Converting the Tahrir Complex building into a hotel
The Supreme Council for Planning and Urban Development approved the request submitted by the Sovereign Fund for Investment and Development, regarding changing the use of the Tahrir Complex building, to become a hotel building.
The name of Tahrir Complex will be changed to Cairo House, to be transformed into a luxurious hotel and multi-use complex.
The development plan, worth more than $200 million, aims to redevelop the complex to create a pioneering mix and development of building uses, to reimagine downtown Cairo and future investment in the Egyptian economy.
According to the design of the architect “RATIO | smdp” in Chicago, the “CairoHouse” hotel, or the former Liberation Complex, will include more than 450 luxury hotel rooms and hotel apartments, and plenty of world-class dining and entertainment venues.
Cairo House will also feature 85,000 square feet of meeting and event space including the largest rooftop venue in Cairo.
The developers also envision a structural Lotus Suite, an indoor-outdoor event and wedding venue to provide an additional 15,000 square feet of large meeting space.
The entire project represents over US$200 million investment in repurposing one of the most emblematic government buildings in downtown Cairo in Egypt and the Middle East.
3 new towers next to Maspero
The construction works of the Maspero Nile Towers project are currently being carried out, directly next to the TV building and behind the Nile Corniche buildings.
The project includes 3 residential towers at a height of 30 floors, comprising 774 housing units of different sizes.
It also includes a suspended structure that rises above the towers, starting from the 26th floor, and connects the 3 towers. It contains 8 apartments and two distinct villas.
And the Maspero Nile Towers project on an area of 19,244 square meters, consisting of residential towers, commercial spaces, and recreational spaces (a health club – children’s play areas – open green areas).
