The term ‘Dakat’ of the polling booth came into much discussion last October 12 due to the by-election of Gaibandha-5 (Saghata-Phulchari) constituency. After the start of voting, the election commission announced the closure of the by-election due to various irregularities.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal told reporters that day, ‘Infiltrators in the secret room are robbers of the polling station. These are the crooks. Those who do not obey the law, we can call them robbers, criminals.’
On Tuesday morning, Sarail Upazila Sadar’s Hospital Mor Bazar and Kalikachh Union’s Kalibazar went and talked to the general voters. Almost all voters expressed apprehension about the polling day environment.
There are four candidates in the election field. They are Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan (banana pattern), former president of Ashuganj Upazila BNP Abu Asif Ahmed (car), Jappa Central Committee joint secretary Abdul Hamid Bhasani (plough) and Zaker Party’s Zahirul Islam (rose flower).
