Brasilia – (DPA):
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said after a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Brasilia on Monday that his country will not provide ammunition for the Leopard battle tanks that Germany recently promised to Ukraine.
Nor will Brazil provide ammunition for the Gepard air defense system that Berlin has already sent to Ukraine.
“Brazil is not interested in passing ammunition for use in the war between Ukraine and Russia,” Lula said at a joint news conference with Scholz, who arrived in Brazil on Sunday, his last stop on a four-day visit to South America.
He continued, “Brazil is a country of peace. That is why Brazil does not want any participation in this war, not even indirectly.”
