The main objective of this scheme is to enable illegal workers in various sectors in the country to be legally employed by their employers. The Malaysian Immigration Department, however, specifies that workers in certain sectors and countries can take advantage of this benefit. Bangladesh is at the top of the list.
There is no accurate estimate of how many Bangladeshi illegal workers are currently in Malaysia. However, it is believed that there are more than two to two and a half lakh undocumented Bangladeshis.
