Biplab Dev was the BJP chief minister of Tripura state. The BJP did not bring him to this post as he was made a member of the Rajya Sabha. After 20 years as Chief Minister, CPM leader and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar left in 2018. After that, Biplab Dev became the Chief Minister of Tripura. He resigned from the post of Chief Minister on May 14 last year. On September 22 last year, he became a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s legislature. The BJP has nominated the secretary of the party’s state branch in the seat vacated by him.
Election in 60 seats of the state assembly will be held on February 16. Kaushik Chand has been nominated from the Dhanpur seat of Tripura by former CPM Chief Minister Manik Sarkar. However, state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury Sabrum got the party nomination. He said that Manik had already told the politburo of the government that he now wants to give more time to the organization. Therefore, let him be exempted from contesting the election.
