Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the decisions of the United States and Germany to provide his country with battle tanks.
In his daily video address on Wednesday evening, Zelensky thanked both German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and US President Joe Biden for their pledges to strengthen the Ukrainian defense force with heavy tanks.
“I am grateful to all our allies for their willingness to provide us with modern tanks that we so badly need,” Zelensky said.
“The way we all work together to promote freedom and defend Ukraine and Europe is a historic achievement,” he added.
To this end, he said, it is important to quickly train Ukrainian tank crews and deliver combat tanks to Ukraine as soon as possible.
However, Zelensky said, progress was also needed on other military issues. Besides all this, his country now needs long-range missiles, fighter jets, and more artillery.
Zelensky tweeted earlier that Kyiv is deeply grateful to German Chancellor Schulz and all of Ukraine’s friends in Germany.
