A crime review meeting for the month of December was held at DMP on 18 January. According to police sources, in the meeting, DMP Commissioner Khandkar Ghulam Farooq expressed his concern about the theft in the house. He asked the field level police officers to emphasize to prevent such thefts.
DMP discussion revealed that in most cases of theft, the goods are not recovered, the accused is not arrested. In many cases the final report is given to the court without revealing the mystery of the case.
Allegedly, to ensure the punishment of a thief, the seriousness of investigation, charge sheet in court, testimony in trial is not done by the police. An officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of DMP, who did not wish to be named, told Prothom Alo that DMP has a ‘monitoring cell’ to supervise the investigation of important cases. Its meeting mainly deals with five types of cases – murder, rape, robbery, robbery and kidnapping. The investigation officials were asked about the progress of investigation in these cases. The progress of the theft case is not sought. For this reason, the police station does not want to pay much attention to the theft.
The DMP had held a press conference last September after the arrest of a ringleader of the ‘thieves’ named Azizul Fakir. The police then said that he was skilled in stealing grills. More than five hundred cases of theft occurred under his leadership. When contacted, Azizul told Prothom Alo over the phone yesterday evening that he was out on bail long ago.
