A source familiar with the matter said German and US law enforcement agencies are targeting Hive ransomware in a joint investigation, and are set to reveal their findings later Thursday, Bloomberg News reported.
Hackers in ransomware blackmail their victims to return their stolen data in exchange for sums of money.
The Hive homepage now states that the US Federal Bureau of Investigation seized the site “as part of a coordinated action by law enforcement agencies against[Hive ransomware]”.
Hackers linked to the Hive ransomware gang stole about $100 million from about 1,300 victims, the FBI said in a joint advisory report with the Department of Homeland Security last November.
The group used multiple techniques to target organizations operating in critical manufacturing, healthcare, information technology and government sectors, according to US officials.
