Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, held a meeting with the Supreme Dental Consultative Committee, in the presence of all its members at its first meeting, with the aim of setting frameworks and work mechanisms during the coming period, in a way that guarantees the improvement of dental services in Egypt.
The minister started the meeting by thanking all members of the committee for their effective efforts and constant keenness to raise the status of the dental profession and to exploit all opportunities for cooperation in an optimal manner to support and develop dental services provided to citizens.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the committee was formed by a decision of the Minister of Health and Population, headed by the Chairman of the Dental Sector Committee of the Supreme Council of Universities and with the membership of (The Captain of Dentists, Head of the Central Department of Dentistry at the Ministry of Health, Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Glasgow). Vice Dean of the British Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, a number of professors and experts in the fields of oral and maxillofacial surgery, deans and deans of a number of dental colleges in Egypt)
Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting discussed the objectives of the committee and its work mechanisms, in accordance with scientific foundations and standards, pointing to discussing ways of working to develop tests for granting a license to practice the profession and Egyptian board certificates, which are to be granted through the Egyptian Health Council, in cooperation with the Royal College. Abdul Ghaffar added that the meeting discussed mechanisms for training and continuous professional development for graduates of dental faculties, and setting guidelines for clinical practices for the dental profession, according to the proposed timetables.
This came in the presence of Dr. Muhammad Al-Tayeb, Advisor to the Minister of Health for Technical Affairs and Governance, and Dr. Ehab Kamal, Advisor to the Minister of Health and Population for Professional Medical Education.
