Books – Muhammad Abu Al-Majd:
Dr. Jad Al-Qadi, head of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research, revealed the details of the earthquake in the eastern Mediterranean, which was felt by the residents of Cairo and some governorates with a magnitude of 6 on the Richter scale, saying: “The earthquake is far from Egyptian lands and it occurred in the control of Turkish lands,” noting that the earthquake belt is from Turkey to the east, heading towards Greece, and is called the Hellenic Arc, in relation to the Hellenistic Greek designation.
Al-Qadi added, in a telephone interview to the “Tahrir Hall” program on the “Sada Al-Balad” satellite channel today, Wednesday, that there is a scientific rule that the greater the depth of the earthquake epicenter, the greater the geographical circle of feeling it, and today’s earthquake was at a depth of 54 kilometers underground and its geographical circle. It reached cities south of Cairo, where it was felt by the residents of the governorates of Greater Cairo and some of the Delta cities, including Alexandria and the coastal cities. It was felt less than Greater Cairo and some areas of Beni Suef.
And he continued, that the feeling of today’s earthquake was instantaneous and did not have any danger, stressing: “No accidents or losses were recorded in the Egyptian lands due to today’s earthquake.”
And he added, head of the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research: “Scientifically, the feeling of an earthquake today in Cairo does not cause what is reported on social media of the shaking of Najaf and others,” stressing: “We work with construction and urban agencies to design buildings according to a code that can withstand seismic waves without fractures.” Or collapses, and that the citizen deal well with any earthquake without a stampede.”
He appealed to citizens to review the guideline for confronting the dangers of earthquakes, which is published on the page of the Council of Ministers and the National Institute for Astronomical Research, stressing that two earthquakes were recorded in the eastern Mediterranean today, one of which was of a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter and the other of 2.5 on the Richter, and they are imperceptible due to the distance of their source from Egypt.
