The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdullah Batili, said that he pays special attention to coordination with neighboring countries in order to accelerate the path of a peaceful settlement of the Libyan crisis.
This came during his reception by the Algerian Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra, today (Tuesday) during his two-day visit to Algeria.
The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, in a statement today, that the discussions between the two parties focused on developments in the situation in Libya and the efforts exerted to provide the necessary conditions for organizing the expected electoral events as the only way to consolidate the will of the Libyan people to choose their rulers and unify their national institutions.
According to the statement, the Algerian Foreign Minister renewed his country’s support for the efforts of the United Nations in this direction, stressing its readiness to put its expertise at the disposal of the Libyans, especially with regard to embodying national reconciliation and organizing elections.
