A member of the Russian State Duma and the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Russian epidemiologist, Gennady Onishchenko, said today, Tuesday, that the world needs to prepare for new epidemics.
Onishchenko added – to the Russian (TASS) news agency – that “the world needs to prepare for new epidemics, as there will be more epidemics, and we need to be prepared and able to find faster diagnostic methods to understand what kind of virus we are dealing with.”
The Russian scientist stressed the need to have the ability to develop vaccines faster, in an attempt to tackle any viruses that may spread at any time.
According to Russia’s Coronavirus Crisis Center, 4,719 cases of the new “Omicron” variant, XBB.1.5, were recorded on Monday.
As of yesterday, the total number of confirmed infections with the Corona virus around the world had exceeded 673 million and 507 thousand, while deaths exceeded 6 million and 748 thousand.
