Islamabad – ASC
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed his “sincere regret” for the inconvenience suffered by the people due to the nationwide power outage on Monday.
On his official Twitter account, Shahbaz Sharif said he had directed today to conduct an investigation into the Pakistan-wide power outage that plunged the country into darkness yesterday and continues to affect areas across Pakistan.
He added, “According to my orders, an investigation is underway to determine (causes of) the power outage. Responsibility will be determined,” according to the Pakistani newspaper, The Express Tribune.
A massive collapse in Pakistan’s national grid has caused the worst power outages across Pakistan in months, disrupting life and highlighting the weakness of the debt-ridden country’s infrastructure, and drawing criticism from millions left without power amid harsh winter weather, the country’s energy minister announced. Khurram Dastgir Khan today restored electricity after the collapse of the national power grid.
The Pakistani minister said that the network was repaired at about 5:15 am local time today, but that load shedding will continue during the next two days with the restart of nuclear plants and coal plants, noting that industrial facilities will be excluded from load shedding.
