I wrote – Sherine Salah:
Engineer Ahmed Samir, Minister of Trade and Industry, held an extensive meeting with the heads of the export councils for the sectors of engineering, chemicals, building materials, food, and agricultural crops, to discuss the visions and action plans of these councils aimed at increasing Egyptian exports and benefiting from Egypt’s great economic potential, according to a statement from the ministry today, Tuesday.
The minister added, according to the statement, that the meeting reviewed the export rates achieved by the export councils during the past year, as the export sectors were able to maintain their positive indicators during the year 2022 despite the global economic crises, which confirms the ability of the Egyptian industry to overcome crises and strong competition in foreign markets. “The coming period will witness a remarkable improvement in the movement of Egyptian exports, especially in light of the measures taken by the government recently,” he said.
The minister said that the meeting reviewed the possibility of the participation of export councils in the strategy that the ministry is currently preparing to advance the national industry in cooperation with various concerned authorities and the World Bank with the aim of increasing the industrial growth rate, increasing the share of industry in the gross domestic product and increasing the growth rate of industrial exports, in order to achieve the desired goal. The Egyptian state is represented in achieving exports of about $ 100 billion.
Samir explained that the Egyptian commercial offices in some countries were assigned to conduct studies on the economic and production conditions in these countries in light of the circumstances imposed by the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, which prompted some factories to stop their production due to the lack of energy required for work.
He pointed out that this matter represents a golden opportunity for Egypt if it succeeds in attracting some of these factories to the Egyptian market during the next stage, which can be done through the Egyptian business community with the help of the information that the ministry will provide through its offices abroad.
Al-Wazir said that the ministry is currently seeking to maximize the benefit from the Arab-African Trade Bridges Program, which is being implemented by the ministry in cooperation with the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation. He pointed out that the Egyptian exporting companies can establish exhibitions, warehouses or logistic centers for them to enhance their presence in the African markets, in coordination and cooperation with the 11 Egyptian commercial offices in Africa.
