Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, reviewed the projects that were implemented in the new city of Sohag during the past year 2022, stressing the continuation of efforts and periodic follow-up of the projects being implemented to serve the people of Upper Egypt.
The Minister of Housing stated that the projects contributed to improving the services provided to citizens, and included the implementation of housing units (housing for all Egyptians), offering various residential lands to citizens, and allocating more than 30 investment service plots of different sizes with activities (commercial administrative / commercial, administrative, residential / educational). / medical / nursery / sports club / compound), as well as developing roads, raising the efficiency of electricity and utilities, planting, beautifying, and coordinating many areas.
Engineer Mostafa Hareb, head of the New Sohag City Development Agency – supervisor of the new city of Akhmim, added that due to the demand from citizens for housing in the city, 42 residential buildings are being implemented with a total of 1008 fully finished housing units with an area of 90 square meters (3 rooms + hall) within the presidential initiative. “Housing for all Egyptians” in the new city of Sohag, to meet the requests of the applicants, and 12,054 residential plots of various residential plots were offered between housing (more distinguished – distinguished – average) to provide adequate housing for all groups in Sohag Governorate, and to provide opportunities for citizens to build their own housing in the city according to specific requirements.
The head of the New Sohag City Authority added that the services in the city included the implementation and operation of the university hospital with a capacity of 200 beds on an area of 8.6 acres, which includes the hospital building consisting of a ground floor + 4 recurring floors, and other buildings within the components of the project that include electricity, security, maintenance rooms, etc., and implementation is underway. Finishing works for the “Children’s Hospital” with a capacity of 263 beds, consisting of a basement + ground floor + 6 floors on an area of 6.6 acres in the city services center. The public lottery for 600 plots of cemeteries (Muslims / Christians) has also been completed, and more than 20 shops have been sold. By the system of public bidding in some areas of the city, 2 private schools have been allocated to investors and implementation is underway, and another school is being implemented for the benefit of the Educational Buildings Authority.
Engineer Mostafa Hareb announced that many shops in the wholesale market have been operated, the Real Estate Registration Authority, the Postal Service and Ambulance have been operated, 4 mass transport buses have been operated from the mother city of Sohag to the new city of Sohag (and vice versa), and “Taf-Taf” vehicles have been operated inside the city.
He added that the sewage treatment plant project with a capacity of 12,000 m3/day has been put into operation as a “first stage”, and the implementation of (water – sewage – irrigation) networks for an area of 735 acres has been completed in distinct plots of land, as well as the installation of prepaid water meters has begun in some areas. Areas of the city to rationalize water consumption and preserve the facility, and green areas of 40 feddans have been implemented and development works for the main squares of the city.
The head of the New Sohag City Authority indicated that many road projects are being implemented for several neighborhoods and regions of the city, with an investment value of 320 million pounds, and there are 11 projects. 130 km under construction and expected to be completed during the current fiscal year.
He said: Some measures were taken to deal with the excess amounts of water resulting from rain during the winter season, which included: purifying all rain drains, and purging the city’s torrential wastewaters, in addition to forming the Disaster and Crisis Committee to work continuously 24 hours a day, in addition to this. Coordinating with the operation and maintenance company in the city to provide all means and equipment, including scavenging vehicles and a fountain cart, to face any emergency.
