The persons accused of beating up Shahriad are Vijay Ektar Hall branch Chhatra League leader Majedur Rahman, Shakibul Islam alias Sujan, Yusuf Tuhin, Bayezid Bostami, Pier Hasan alias Shakib and others. All of them are followers of Tanveer Hasan, general secretary of the university branch of the Chhatra League.
Shahriad Mia, who complained about the beating, said, ‘According to a phone conversation with someone, the accused took me to a room in Vijay Ekatar Hall around 11 pm on Sunday. Then they started checking my mobile phone. At one stage they started hitting my hands, ears and other parts of the body with wood. Along with unspeakable abuse. The torture stopped when the journalists went to the spot after receiving the news. After the journalists left, the torture started again. I was tortured till seven o’clock this morning. They didn’t let me sleep. They beat another student along with me.’
