The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa, confirmed that 100% of experts expect improvement in the tourism sector, pointing out that 95% of the tourism activity and industry is based on the private sector.
This came during his speech before the plenary session of the Senate today, Sunday – to respond to the request of the general debate on clarifying the plan of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to raise tourism revenues and increase the number of tourists, and to request the general discussion on developing a national strategy to improve the tourism situation in Egypt.
The Minister of Tourism added that according to the figures issued by the World Tourism Organization, the total number of tourists in the world in 2019, specifically before the Corona pandemic, amounted to 1.4 billion tourists, indicating that Egypt’s share was about 13 million tourists, not exceeding 0.9%.
The Minister of Tourism stressed that Egypt’s tourism potential deserves to reach 30 and 40 million tourists annually, noting that according to a study prepared by the ministry, the number of potential tourists wishing to visit Egypt is about 334 million potential tourists in 2028, pointing out that the ministry targets a rapid growth of 25 to 30% annually.
