Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sweilem, affirmed that the political leadership pays great attention to the implementation of strategic projects between Egypt and Sudan.
This came during a meeting held by the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, today, Sunday, with Dr. Hani Sweilem, in the presence of his Sudanese counterpart, the guest of the house, Abdul Rahman, and the Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan, Hani Salah. Greetings from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Lieutenant General Al-Burhan, wishing him all the best and stability for the brotherly Sudanese people.
Dr. Hani Sweilem referred to the depth and eternity of relations between Egypt and Sudan, and Egypt’s keenness to strengthen cooperation relations with Sudan in all fields, especially in the field of water resources and irrigation, in a way that achieves the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples and reflects the unity of purpose and destiny, explaining that Egypt has always affirmed its commitment to the 1959 Convention. As a basis for technical cooperation between the two countries through the permanent joint technical authority for the Nile waters, stressing the importance of continuing to hold its meetings periodically to discuss all technical issues of common interest between the two countries related to the Nile River.
The Minister of Irrigation also affirmed Egypt’s interest in increasing the horizons of cooperation, linking the interests of the two countries, and facilitating the movement of people and goods between them, pointing out that the political leadership pays great attention to implementing strategic projects between Egypt and Sudan, such as electrical interconnection, increasing the capacity of the transmission line and railway linkage, and developing the port of Wadi Halfa. Egypt is exerting all possible efforts to support its brothers through the air and land bridges and the provision of medical and relief aid and so on.
For his part, the head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council affirmed his country’s keenness to continue cooperation and joint coordination with Egypt at the highest levels and in all issues related to the fields of water and irrigation, and the continuation of the joint meeting of the Nile Water Authority, and overcoming all the obstacles and challenges it faces, so that it can play its role, to achieve the interests of the Sudanese people. aspirations of the people of both countries.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Swailem is currently visiting Sudan, on his first official visit since assuming his duties to a country from the Nile Basin, and the visit will last for two days.
