The old scene was seen at Jahangir Alam’s residence in the Chaikdana area of Gazipur on the Dhaka-Tangail highway on Sunday morning. Leaders-activists and supporters are crowding from different areas of the city. They are waiting for hours to see their beloved leader and hear something from him. Some are at the gate of the house, some are on the ground floor, some are on the upper floor. There are many of them, who are eager crowds, who have come to see the inner atmosphere. At this time, the leaders and activists were also seen giving various slogans about Jahangir. But after Jahangir’s dismissal from the party post and the post of mayor, the picture was completely different.
Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League worker Abbas Uddin said, ‘I liked Mayor Jahangir, but he was not contacted because it was a party decision. But since the party has forgiven him, there is no problem with him now. Not only me, thousands of leaders and workers of the metropolis like me stayed away from him only because of party decisions.’
There is a strong discussion about when Jahangir Alam will return to the post of mayor of Gazipur City Corporation after the withdrawal of expulsion from Awami League. Many of the local leaders-activists are saying that the city corporation will be relieved of the burden very soon in addition to being returned to the party, which has already been indicated by the Minister of Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives. Jahangir Alam also says that he will work for the party and local people in the future by discussing with local ministers, state ministers and members of parliament.
